If you ever feel like you have a closet full of clothes with nothing to wear, it’s probably time for a wardrobe assessment. This issue most often arises when you’ve bought into way too many trends and not enough of the staples. While there’s no denying how much I love playing with trends, I also know that staples are the building blocks for every outfit. They’re super versatile, easily transitioning from day to night, and allow for repeat wear. That said, they’re also worth investing in as you’ll love them for years and years. If you’re in need of fresh smart investment pieces, head over to Nordstrom because there’s no shortage of new arrivals to shop. Below are the 5 pieces I swear by right now.

Wardrobe heroes that will last you for years to come…

1 Oversized Blazer

An oversized blazer is one of the best smart investment pieces to have in your wardrobe. My favorite thing about it is that you can carry it through any season… For the warmer months, wear a white tee underneath – or layer it over knits in the winter. This Alexander Wang blazer from Nordstrom caught my eye because the heavier weight and subtle logo down the lapel. The neutral gray color also goes with so many pieces I already own!

2 Leather

You can never go wrong with leather in your wardrobe as it can be worn any day of the week, including Casual Fridays at the office with a basic T-shirt. You can also pair it with a dressier top/dress and heels for a night out. The best thing about leather is that it isn’t bulky at all and can be layered, thus making for infinite outfit combinations.

3 Statement Details

I’m a huge fan of statement sweaters, but this season, I’ve been digging a lot more minimalist pieces that contain a bold detail. For instance, the rhinestone neckline on this Alexander Wang sweater. Plus, it’s 100% wool so I know it’ll last forever and actually keep me warm! You can style it with leather pants, clean denim, prairie dresses, or bias skirts – and it’ll feel fresh every time.

4 Dark Sunglasses

Nothing commands attention like a pair of dark, mysterious sunglasses. They offer understated attitude to the most basic looks, which means it’s the easiest outfit solution when you feel like you have nothing to wear. Oversized ’70s frames will be all the rage this season, especially in brown tones, but I don’t think I’ll ever give up a cool cat-eye or shield style.

5 Neutral Boots

When I think about the shoes that I wear over and over again, they’re usually neutral-colored boots. Given the comfort, they’re just easier to wear and also tend to make an outfit look more sleek. Besides, I don’t think anything looks more unattractive than a woman limping around in a pair of heels. Opt for a skinny or low block heel that lifts you up enough to improve you posture.
