Aaron Gordon uses diss track to call out Dwyane Wade vote

Aaron Gordon has put his displeasure with the 2020 Dunk Contest into a “diss” track titled “9 OUT OF 10,” in which he calls out Dwyane Wade for the vote that helped him lose to Miami’s Derrick Jones Jr.

In an epic dunk contest back in February, Gordon dunked over Chance the Rapper (twice) and threw down 360-degree, between-the-leg slams. The battle between Gordon and Jones carried on into a “dunk-off” in which each player had to improvise dunks that hadn’t been rehearsed. For Gordon’s final dunk, he cleared 7-foot-6 Tacko Fall.

That dunk wound up earning him a score of 47, causing the Orlando forward to lose to Jones by a single point. Wade was one of three judges — along with Hall of Fame forward Scottie Pippen and actor Chadwick Boseman — who gave Gordon a 9. That night, several judges said the dunk-off was designed to end in a tie.

“But somebody didn’t do it right,” hip-hop artist Common, who was another judge, told ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne.

Immediately after, Gordon told ESPN that he “truly believed that I won this one” and said he would not be participating in another dunk contest.

He doubled down on that sentiment in his music this week. In the opening scene of the music video, Gordon pours wine into a glass out of a bottle with “Wade” scrawled on the label.

“Knew one day I’d be good and you’d come for me, didn’t know it would make me this hungry,” Gordon raps in the track. “See you in the hallway when you say ‘youngin’ ’bout to put on a show,’ didn’t know that was code for ‘you’re about to get rolled.'”

Early Monday morning, Wade tweeted that Gordon should “trademark 9/10” and “make some money off of it. That’s free advice that I won’t charge him for it. (You know since I costed him a Mill).”
