Anyang’ Nyong’o Appoints Himself Health Minister

Kisumu County Governor Anyang Nyongo has appointed himself to the position of the acting County Executive Committee Member in charge of Health in Kisumu County.

In a statement released by the County government of Kisumu on Friday, March 20, the Governor announced new appointments after which he declared himself the Health CEC until a substantive appointment.

“In the meantime, the Department of Health and Sanitation shall be managed by the governor himself before the appointment of a substantive CECM,” the statement reads in part.

The governor further explained that the appointments and the reshuffles he conducted were in order to improve service delivery in the county.

Also nominated to various positions in the statement were Joyce Otieno Osogo, as the County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Roads and Public Works and Transport.

Governor Nyong’o also appointed Judith Miguda Attyang as the CEC for Business, Cooperatives, and Marketing in the county.

In May 2019, Nyong’o replaced the then Executive Committee Member for Health, Rosemary Obara over what he termed as search for a better manager.

He then appointed Ettyang, a University don who has been acting in the capacity until her appointment as the CEC for Business, Cooperatives, and Marketing.

At the time, the County Director of Communication Aloice Ager told the Standard newspaper that Obara was replaced because the governor believed the docket needed better handling.

Nyong’o also went on another rampage in October 2019 and fired three CECs: Alice Moraa (Energy), Richard Ogendo ( Cooperatives) and Thomas Ondijo (Roads).

He appointed Agriculture executive Gilchrist Okuom as the acting Business, Cooperatives, and Marketing executive, John Obiero (Education executive) as the acting Finance and Economic Planning executive, and Lands CEC Dickson Obungu the acting executive member in charge of Roads, Transport and Public Works.
