Bandari 1-2 Tusker: Marita’s debut goal settles matters at Mbaraki

Former AFC Leopards forward scored with seconds remaining to help the Brewers to a vital win against the Dockers

Tusker FC retained their position on top of the Kenyan Premier League (KPL) table after coming from behind to win 2-1 away against Bandari at Mbaraki Stadium in Mombasa.

Wycliffe Ochomo opened the scoring for the hosts from the penalty spot in the first half before Hashim Sempala levelled matters in the second half and later on Brian Marita opened his account for his new team with a winning goal.

The Brewers started the match on a high and could have gone ahead after just nine minutes on the clock. The Dockers conceded a free-kick in a good position, it was taken by Hashim Sempala but Michael Wanyika ensured no damage was done.

Shaban Kenga could have done better in the 20th minute when Siraj Mohammed found him in a good position, but he shot straight at the goalkeeper who punched the ball for safety.

Five minutes later, Kenga was fouled in the 18-yard area and the referee pointed to the penalty spot. Wycliffe Ochomo held his nerve to open the scoring in favour of the 2018/19 Shield Champions.

It almost became worse for the Ruaraka based side with 10 minutes to the break when an Abdallah Hassan cracker beat the keeper, only for the crossbar to deny him what could have been a superb solo goal.

Tusker FC looked more improved after the break-in search of an equalizer. Their spirit was further improved when Siraj, who was the tormentor in chief, picked up a knock and was substituted for Dan Otewa.

It paid off with 25 minutes to go when Ugandan Hashim Sempala levelled matters with a long-range effort to silence the home fans who, until that time, had filled the stadium with cheers in support of the home team.

William Wadri could have won it late for the hosts but the goalkeeper managed to make a smart save to deny the Ugandan. The hosts were punished moments later when Brian Marita, who was making his debut, capitalized on defensive lapses to seal the win for the Brewers.
