The Ministry of Health has announced a suspension on all public gatherings, meetings, games, events and church crusades.
Speaking during a press conference, the Cabinet Secretary Ministry of Health Mutahi Kagwe said the decision was made after Kenya tested its first coronavirus case.
This means the Building Bridges Initiative rally that was scheduled to happen in Nakuru on Saturday has been cancelled.
Churches are however allowed to continue with services provided congregants use sanitizer and adhere to the safety precautions against the pandemic.
Kenyans have been advised to refrain from shaking hands and instead, clasp their hands together or hold their chest in greetings.
Schools will however remain open but all inter-school games have been cancelled.
People who have a cough, or a fever have been advised to remain at home and avoid crowds to avoid transmitting the virus.
The government has now embarked on the efforts to trace the lady who is currently in isolation at the Kenyatta National Hospital.
The unidentified 27-year-old woman’s case has pricked the theory that black people cannot contract the coronavirus.
At the same time, the government has asked Kenyans to exercise caution when using social media to post about the pandemic saying there was not need for alarm.
“At the moment, there is absolutely no need for panic or worry provided we keep having the precautionary measures,” CS Mutahi Kagwe said.
