Free-scoring Simba in Tanzania
Simba have found the back of the net with ease at home in this season’s Champions League, having netted 12 goals in their last four matches in Tanzania.
The Reds of Msimbazi secured an impressive 4-1 win over DR Congolese giants AS Vita Club in their last home game after thrashing Sudanese champions Al Merreikh 3-0.
They also thumped Zimbabwe’s FC Platinum in Dar es Salaam and a similar scoreline against Chiefs would take the match into an extra time with the two teams locked at 4-4 on aggregate.
Defence key for Chiefs
Chiefs are aware of the fact that if they don’t concede in Dar es Salaam they will qualify for the semi-finals for the first time in the club’s history.
The Glamour Boys have kept three clean sheets in five away matches in this season’s continental tournament including 1-0 wins over Cameroon’s PWD Bamenda and Primeiro de Agosto of Angola.
They did concede goals in their 4-0 loss to Moroccan giants Wydad Casablanca in their second group stage game which was played in Burkina Faso in February 2021.
Simba’s impressive home record
Simba are enjoying a 12-match unbeaten run at home in the Champions League – recording three draws and nine wins.
The unbeaten run includes two wins over Egyptian football powerhouse Al Ahly and they also held DR Congolese heavyweights Tout Puissant Mazembe to a draw.
They have conceded just four goals and scored a whopping 26 goals in their 12-match unbeaten run.
Chiefs’ aerial threat
Chiefs are a real threat from set-pieces and this was evident in their 4-0 win over Simba in the first-leg clash as they grabbed three headed goals.
Amakhosi have scored 11 goals in this season’s Champions League and five of them were headers.
Erick Mathoho has grabbed two headed goals, while Leonardo Castro, Samir Nurkovic and Bernard Parker have also netted with headers.
Simba vs Chiefs: Dangermen
Luis Miquissone is Simba’s top scorer in this season’s continental competition having netted three goals from 11 matches.
The Mozambican striker scored the three goals in the Reds of Msimbazi’s home games against Al Merreikh, Al Ahly and Vita Club.
While Mathoho has become Chiefs’ main source of goals in the Champions League his term having scored three goals from eight games.
The towering centre-back is a threat from aerial balls and he has scored with headers in his last two competitive games which were against Bloemfontein Celtic and Simba.
