Chris Kirubi to be buried in Thika farm

Industrialist and businessman Chris Kirubi will be buried on Saturday, June 19, at his Thika farm, his media company Capital FM reports.

The urban radio station reported that the deceased’s funeral service will be held on Friday, June 18 at Faith Evangelistic Ministry church, Karen from midmorning.

“Dr Chris Kirubi’s funeral service (will be) on Friday 11 am at Faith Evangelistic Ministry, Karen. (The) burial is on Saturday at his Thika farm,” a tweet by Capital FM read.

What is not clear yet, however, is who and how many people will attend the requiem mass.

The entrepreneur died at the age of 80 years after a long illness.

While confirming his demise in a statement to the public, his family said: “It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Dr Christopher J Kirubi (1941-2021), who passed on today, Monday the 14th of June, 2021, at 1pm, at his home after a long battle with cancer fought with fortitude, grace and courage.”

Kirubi was diagnosed with cancer in 2017.

He said in some of the recent media interviews that he accidentally discovered he had cancer.

The businessman was flown to the US in November 2017 where he was hospitalised for four months after being diagnosed with colon cancer. He returned to Kenya after nine months.

At the time, he said the cancer was detected early enough to be managed successfully.

When he came back in mid-2018, he had lost a lot of weight, something attributed to the effects of the cancer treatment.

His untimely death moved the whole country with leaders from every sector eulogizing him as an “industrialist” who contributed immensely to the growth of the country’s economy.
