Comedian Njugush, Wakavinye speak on being cyberbullied

With the rampant cases of cyberbullying in the country, more celebrities are opening up on their experience in the hands of the keyboard warriors.  Renowned comedian Timothy Kimani aka Njugush and his wife Celestine Ndinda alias Wakavinye recently opened up on their experience.

Reliving their ordeal during a live video on Njugush’s YouTube channel, Wakavinye narrated how while pregnant, she was once asked whether she was carrying an elephant.

“When I gave birth I became so big. Wacha ata kabla iyo, after nijifungue tulienda chini ya maji kidogo. Before nijifungue hawakujua, so it was a month after nishajifunga but msee bado ananiambia mimba yangu imekaa sana. Ati kwani sasa nabeba elephant? That is cyberbullying because it hurts,” she said.

Njugush, on the other hand, recalled when he did a short comedy skit with his wife and was accused of misleading young women.

“For me, its people having their opinions on me, niliteremkiwa uko twitter. So we did a video, it was a very funny video. Nimempeleka out, tumewatch play, it was so romantic. Now it’s time to go home, vile tu mchezo,” he said.

In the video, Njugush demanded that Wakavinye goes home with him since he had spent money on her, a move that he says was misinterpreted.

“It was so funny for us juu tuko husband and wife, kwani alikuwa aende wapi?” posed Njugush.

Before he knew it, he was trending on Twitter at number with several social media users demanding for an apology from him.

“Wakaanza kusema ‘you know now Njugush you need to apologize. You know you are a brand? You know they are watching, those sponsors, I want to see what they will say’. I kept apologizing and deleting.

“So haikuwa kwa ubaya, you know and in my own conscience singefanya kitu kwa ubaya.”

Wakavinye explained that as celebrities, they are expected to form thick skin and brush off trolls but unlike what many people think, it is not as easy as it seems.

“Unfortunately watu hutuambia we grow a thick skin, hii thick skin iko na wenyewe kama kina Madam Boss. Yani Madam Boss (Akothee) me nampenda tu sana. Iyo thick skin, it is not easy.

“One thing I know about cyberbullies is they have too much bitterness in their life, heart and many frustrations. What I keep telling people is you don’t have to open your mouth. Can’t you just keep quiet?” she said.
