The third wave of the coronavirus pandemic continues to wreck with new infections, hospital, ICU admissions and deaths-after 17 more patients succumbed to the virus.
This has pushed cumulative fatalities to 1,954 lives lost to the pandemic. ICU admissions now stand at 114 across the country.
There are 793 patients currently admitted in various health facilities, 2,250 more patients are under home-based care.
Nairobi is the hotbed of new infections with 713 new cases reported in the capital today in the last 24 hours up from 608 cases yesterday.
The country recorded 1,225 new infections in the last 24 hours from a sample size of 7,308 with a positivity rate now at 16.8 percent. This brings the cumulative number of cases to 117, 535 with over 1.3 million tests done since the pandemic struck.
Out of the new infections, 691 were male and 534 female cases of new infections recorded today.
In the last 24 hours, 142 patients have recovered with 83 under home-based and isolation care and 59 others from various health facilities. The total number of recoveries now stands at 89.203.
Ministry of Health has distributed 355,500 vaccine doses to 10 regional stores countrywide as Kenya continues to record high numbers.
This comes at a time when the ministry is calling on Kenyans who are not eligible for vaccination in the first phase to give priority to the essential service providers who are its main target as “We shall announce the time for other members of the public to come out for the exercise when the time comes.”
