Nigerian superstar Davido received over Ksh.38 million in about three hours after asking his friends and fans to send him cash in appreciation for his music.
The singer, who turns 29 on November 21, took to his Instagram story to ask colleagues for a monetary token, and they did not disappoint.
Davido called on those he had helped in the music industry to each send him money in a video posted on Instagram, which many mistook for a joke.
He then went on to open a new bank account, which he publicized online.
The Nigerian superstar received Ksh. 1.9 million in less than 10 minutes, and according to his post, he couldn’t believe it. He added that the goal was to raise Kshs 27 million to clear his Rolls royce from the port.
“Omo 7 m in 10 minutes keep goin!! I love y’all! AIM NAH 100m I wan clear my rolls Royce from port abeg” the superstar said.
“We rise by lifting others abi? Me I don dey rise dey lifting others for the past 100 years. So I want to know who my friends are. All of my friends one one million Naira. They said we are 30BG. If you don’t send your own. You out of here. You are gone (sic).”
Nengi, Perruzi, Teni, Adekunle Gold, Mr Eazi, Zlatan, Cubana Chief Priest, and Chike are among those who have given money to the singer.
He is also said to have received funds from Akin Alabi, a member of the Oyo State House of Representatives, Emeka Okonkwo aka E-money, and Obinna Iyiegbu aka Obi Cubana, a businessman and socialite.
The singer has been regularly updating his Instagram stories with screenshots of transactions and thanking each and every person who has sent him money.
Davido’s most recent update came at 4 a.m. on Thursday morning, with the amount standing at Ksh. 38.7 million, surpassing the Ksh. 27 million goal he set for himself.
