Drake recognizes orphaned Ugandan dancers for ‘Toosie Slide’ dance

Masaka Kids Africana, a group of orphaned dancers from Uganda are becoming the latest internet sensation after their dance video went viral. The group made of children from the age of two recently joined the bandwagon dancing to Drake’s latest single “Toosie Slide”

The kids joined millions of social media users who participated in the Toosie Slide challenge. Their effortless moves in the video caught the attention of the Canadian rapper who reposted the clip to his Instastory and the young dancers were over the moon.

Unlike most videos posted on Instagram, Masaka dancers took a different turn, adding some African spice to the choreography and came up with a new, hip, unique and electric dance. The group of orphans spiced it up by attaching a couple of traditional moves that set them apart from most of their contenders.

It was not the first time the group has warmed the hearts of online users. The group named after Masaka town in South Uganda were in Istanbul in 2019 for a one-week trip through the support of sponsors. During their Istanbul stay, the kids danced at many events including a match featuring Turkish football club Besiktas, a basketball match and TV shows.

“Istanbul is so good, there are beautiful houses and people of Istanbul have a lot of love,” seven-year-old Namubiru Nabirah said of the trip.

Ghetto Kids

In 2018, yet another kids’ dance group from Uganda put the country in the international spotlight after their dance moves attracted the attention of American rapper French Montana.

Montana gifted Ghetto Kids with a multimillion-shilling mansion. The house was presented to the children by their manager Kavuma Dauda. The gift came more than a year after he featured them in his hit song Unforgettable which was shot in Uganda in 2017.

Excitedly, Ghetto Kids took to social media to thank French Montana for being a blessing to their lives.

“2018 has been a great year for us. We thank the Almighty God for the blessings. We pray he continues blessing us more and more. French Montana and the whole team we can’t thank you enough. We only pray to God to continue blessing you guys; we shall always be proud of you,” the Instagram post read.

In 2017, the rapper flew them to the US for the prestigious BET Awards, where they also got a chance to perform.
