The Go Green initiative has pushed forward all the way to the League of Legends Championship Series final.
FlyQuest defeated Evil Geniuses 3-1 on Saturday to reach their first LCS final and secure a date with Cloud9 on Sunday. Evil Geniuses had defeated FlyQuest in the first round of the playoffs, but FlyQuest ran it back through the losers bracket, securing victories over Golden Guardians (3-0), TSM (3-2) and the rematch with EG (3-1) to reach the final. FlyQuest had lost both regular-season games they played against EG.
In two previous semifinal appearances, FlyQuest had fallen short of reaching the final — getting swept 3-0 by TSM in spring 2017 and Team Liquid in spring 2019.
Colin “Solo” Earnest, who spent much of the season on the FQ Academy roster and was called up as a substitute in March, played all four playoff matches. Tristan “PowerOfEvil” Schrage earned two deathless games, including an impressive 8/0/8 performance on Viktor in Game 1 against Evil Geniuses. PowerOfEvil secured his third Player of the Series honor as a result, leading the rest of the pack in the LCS spring split playoffs.
FlyQuest now will meet the favorites Cloud9 in the final. C9 dominated both regular-season meetings (Solo did not compete in either contest), with a combined kill total of 31-8 and 18-2 in towers taken.
A win for Cloud9 would cap a remarkable season in which the team finished 17-1 in the regular season, jungler Robert “Blaber” Huang won regular-season MVP, the entire C9 starting lineup was named to the First LCS All-Pro Team and Bok “Reapered” Han-gyu earned Coach of the Split honors. A win for FlyQuest would give them their first championship.
The championship final will air Sunday at 4 p.m. ET on ESPN2 and the ESPN App.
