A form three student in a Nakuru secondary school on Wednesday denied charges of assaulting a police officer in Nairobi and pleaded for lenient cash bail to return to school for end term examinations.
Samuel Wainaina Ngugi, 20, is accused of beating up and injuring Police Constable Khalif Mbokomo of Nairobi’s Central Police station on October 21.
Ngugi is a student at Nester Secondary School in Nakuru.
Mbokomo and his colleague, Dancun Kimainga, had stopped Ngugi along Tom Mboya Street and asked him to identify himself because he looked suspicious.
But Ngugi is said to have turned violent, telling the officers “mtaninjua” before assaulting Mbokomo.
Ngugi is also accused of offensive conduct after allegedly calling the two officers prostitutes.
He denied the charges before senior resident magistrate Bernard Ochoi of Milimani Law Courts.
The suspect was released on a bond of Sh 50,000 with a surety of similar amount and an alternative cash bail of Sh 20, 000 with a contact person to ensure he attends court.
