Health CS commissions oxygen plant and lauds hospital management

Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe commissioned several health projects at Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) Eldoret in Uasin Gishu County on Thursday.

The projects aimed at enhancing quality service provision include Oxygen Generating Plant (OGP) that produce 2000 Lpm of oxygen, Pressure Swing Adsorption (PSA), and MTRH Nawiri Recovery and skills centre.

The CS also commissioned a data centre, ICT network upgrade and high definition CCTV, MTRH radiotherapy equipment, MTRH Chandaria Cancer and Chronic Diseases Centre.

Speaking after the function on Thursday, Kagwe urged the board and management of the facility to ensure that resources deployed by the government are managed properly.

The CS noted MTRH oxygen plant came at the right time when the country is fighting the Covid-19 pandemic.

“I am delighted with the steps taken by the management of this facility. MTRH alone produces two tones of oxygen daily, which is a great move towards achieving the demand,” said Kagwe.

He said the development has reduced death rates by providing adequate measures to ensure that life is protected.

He added: “We have more than 700 Kenyans who are in need of oxygen across the country and with what I have witnessed here today, I believe our patients will be taken care of well.”

Kagwe urged other public healthcare providers to emulate MTRH Management for its transparency, saying the facility is among the best hospitals not only in Kenya but in Africa.

MTRH CEO Dr Wilson Aruasa said the hospital with 62 ICU beds is now supplying oxygen to every patient bed through the piping system which ensures great efficiency.
