Kenya in the past decade saw a steep rise in the number of women punching their weight above the glass ceiling and apart from being smart and successful, won big in the DNA lottery.
They represented a growing majority of career women who understood the power they held, the brand they wielded, and, while at it, turned many heads with their uncompromising beauty.
Neomi Nganga
Born in 1987, the curvaceous 32-year-old actress and ex-radio presenter is the Executive Director of Miss Kenya Plus World Beauty Pageant.
“The pageant will empower women to develop the confidence and elegance, here at home and beyond,” said the beauty whose acting career spanned several high-profile shows; Tahidi High, Wash and Set, Sumu la Penzi and the highly acclaimed Sue na Joni that airs on Maisha Magic East.
Grace Msalame
The beloved daughter of former radio legend the late Tony Msalame, Grace is the content and acquisition manager at Bamba TV.
A mother of twins Raha and Zawadi, Msalame doubles up as Vivo brand ambassador and currently hosts Unscripted with Grace on NTV.
The former Straight Up and Arts Scene host holds a degree in Communication and Electronic Media from Daystar University.
Betty Kyallo
Betty Kyallo had a successful decade and represented a niche group of highly prosperous female anchors ever to grace our TV screens.
Born in 1989 in today’s Kajiado County, the celebrated K24 news anchor grew up in Nairobi and honed her journalistic skills at Daystar University before getting her big break at KTN.
Aside from journalism, Kyallo is an astute businesswoman and runs a high-end spa Flair by Betty located at the stunning FCB Mihrab building on Lenana Road.
Size 8
Linet Munyali started as a secular star who belted out hits such as Mateke and Shamba Boy.
When heaven flashed around her on her road to Damascus, she found salvation, changed her moniker to Size 8 reborn and married popular gospel disc jockey, Dj Mo.
She has since released highly acclaimed songs i.e. Afadhali Yesu and Mwambie and welcomed two children, daughter Ladashabelle and son Muraya Junior.
Avril
Formerly signed to Ogopa Deejays, Judith Nyambura alias Avril has built a reputation as a talented artist with many hats.
The singer, songwriter and actress debuted her screen role in the delightful television soap opera Shuga and followed it up with stellar stints in Mali, Noose of Gold and Sumu La Penzi.
She won the Best Boomba artiste at the Kisima Awards (2012), landed nominations in Channel O Music Video Awards, Kilimanjaro Awards, Pearl of Africa Music Awards, AFRIMMA Awards and KORA Awards and is currently the Oriflame Kenya brand ambassador.
