This post might come as a little surprise as I’m not pregnant and just didn’t have a baby. However, I can’t help but notice all the babies, moms-to-be’s and new moms on Instagram lately. It’s made me reflect on my own journey after having kids and how my style has evolved. In retrospect, 9 months is a really long time and can feel even longer when you are pregnant! It’s almost hard to recall how to dress when you are no longer preggo but it’s also one of the best feelings because it means you can get your body back. That said, I wanted to put together a guide of some key items for those women who are transitioning out of maternity wear into their postpartum style.
Faux Leather Leggings
I don’t recommend going on a shopping spree immediately after having a baby since your body will likely like anywhere from 3-6 months to adjust. Resist the urge and resort to leggings. You just cannot beat their comfort and versatility. When it comes to postpartum style, I highly recommend the Spanx or Commando brands. They make some of the best leggings that are durable, while also providing a bit of tummy compression. I love wearing my leggings with oversized sweaters during the winter and switching to loose tunics when it gets warmer out.
Duster Cardigans and Capes
In addition to leggings, duster cardigans and capes are another fashionable must have for postpartum style. You’ll feel way more comfortable in them with a newborn. Plus, they can be mixed and matched with so many different items in your wardrobe. I also love how the longer cut helps slim and elongate the body!
High-Waisted Jeans
The best feeling about postpartum is when you can finally ditch the maternity jeans with the elastic band! An easy transition is switching to high-waisted denim because it still acts as a control top. From a purely aesthetic aspect, high-waisted denim is really cute on and has that vintage vibe I adore! No matter what, jeans are so versatile so it important to treat yourself to a good quality pair after you give birth.
Compression/Girdle
You can also always opt for a belly support top, corset or girdle for extra support. There is absolutely no shame in using one either. These postpartum belly wraps work wonders and are great for helping your body tighten and get back to its original state. But most importantly, waist compressions support your abdominals while you regain your strength so you can get back to doing your everyday tasks.
Flowy Dresses
Flowy Dresses
My last tip to looking your best after birth are dresses. No matter what, a cute, flattering dress will always look chic and put together while requiring minimal styling effort. And above all, they are incredibly comfortable – which was my main priority! Sticky to flowy silhouettes so they are not too restricting on the body.
Brining a new little person into the world is overwhelming but you need to remember to take care of yourself too! Feeling good is all about looking good and these key items will do just that for your postpartum style!
