Karen to host over 160 golfers in the second leg of the Konza invesTeeing series

Karen Country Club will tomorrow, Friday 26, host over 160 golfers drawn to play in the second leg of the Konza InvesTeeing Series following a successful inaugural event at Machakos Golf Club in September this year.

The golfers, who will play a stableford, fourball format at the expansive par 72 Karen Country Club course, will tee off starting 0800 Hours (EAT) with the last tee off scheduled for 1420 (EAT) hours.

The Karen event is one of the seven lined up Konza Technopolis’ tournaments which will be held in various golf clubs in the country in a bid to scale up the smart city’s engagements with both local and international investors.

The next tournament is scheduled for Eldoret Golf Club, with Nakuru, Kisumu and Mount Kenya events lined up for next year. The tournaments will culminate at the 18 hole Leisure Lodge Golf Beach and Golf Resort.

From the inaugural series event, handicap 14, David Mwangangi of Machakos Golf Club’s emerged the top finisher while in the ladies category, handicap 22 Jane Kiiti, was the crowned winner after she carded a round of 35 points; two ahead of handicap 30 Rehema Okal who took the runner-up spot with 33 points.

So far, through the series, Konza Technopolis Development Authority (KoTDA) has engaged over 100 prospective investors, in a bid which seeks to scale its development in line with its recently launched second strategic plan 2021-2025, which seeks to accelerate the impact of Konza Technopolis.

Speaking ahead of the event, KoTDA CEO, Eng. John Tanui said:

“We are delighted to head to Karen for our second leg of our InvesTeeing Series, having launched the inaugural event at Machakos late in September. Karen Country Club is just one of the best in the world and it will offer the golfers some great time to battle for their spot in the finale. I am certain that this will be one of the many interesting tournaments which we have lined up in a bid to scale our investments engagements in the country.”

He added: “As an upcoming smart city, we also want to place sports as a key driver of our economic pillar and with this series, we are also establishing a foundation through which the city will continue to meet its goal and nurture its dream. We envisage that by the end of this series, we shall have made a family with the rest of the golfing fraternity.”

“The series is also envisaged to attract, onboard and retain key investors, which is the first of the three pillars in the Authority’s second strategic plan.”
