Naomi Theuri, a resident of Kasarani, Nairobi, was overcome with emotions after the Kenyan online community banded together to help reunite her with her father (Spencer Theuri) who went missing on Sunday, May 17.
Speaking to the media, Naomi was full of gratitude for the massive campaign that spread like wildfire on social media platforms, as Kenyans retweeted and shared a poster she had posted online.
“My dad has been found, he’s alive and he’s safe. He was picked up by two good samaritans and I just want to say thank you very much.
“Thank you all for stepping in the gap and just thank you so much for being there for us,” she stated while struggling to contain her emotions.
She went on to explain how her dad’s dementia led him to walk out of the house without anyone noticing.
According to data from the World Health Organization (WHO), around 50 million people across the world suffer from the disease and there are nearly 10 million new cases every year.
Naomi highlighted the adverse effects of Dementia, and urged Kenyans to give a helping hand whenever they came across people who seemed to be confused and out of place.
“Be careful of your parents and be careful with anyone who suffers from this disease.
“Never take anything for granted because people suffering from this disease, are one person at one moment, and then they forget who they are and they get lost. If you ever see someone confused, please do not hesitate to offer a helping hand because you could be saving someone from a lot of grief,” she emphasised.
