Kisumu family spends night in the cold after a barrel of monkeys raids home

A family from Akingi in Kisumu has appealed to the government to come to their aid in resolving a monkey menace that is giving residents sleepless nights.

The latest comes a day after a family in the village spent their Thursday night in the biting cold after a barrel of monkeys invaded their house and hid in the ceiling.

“In the evening, we could hear animals running in the ceiling, we assumed it was a cat and sent our son to look, he saw three monkeys and just fell off the roof, he was so shocked he did not even jump, he just fell off,” Nicanor Bodo told Citizen Digital.

Afraid that the cheeky monkeys would attack them in the dead of the night, the family resolved to spend the night outside in an ironic twist of fate.

In the morning when it felt safer to venture back into the house, the family was devastated to learn that the monkeys had eaten all the food in the kitchen.

“I have a wife and kids, the monkeys ate all the food we left in the kitchen yesterday, this is stressing me already,” Bodo lamented.

On Friday afternoon, Mr. Bodo and several of his neighbours took matters into their own hands, engaging the monkeys in a heated, 2-hour running battle.

Only one animal was captured with the rest retreating further into their ceiling hideout.

Residents have now appealed to the government to come up with a permanent solution as the monkey menace is getting out of hand.

“What do I do now? There are monkeys living in my house, eating my food, Where do I go?” Bodo asked
