Maximum Security won the $1 million Haskell Invitational on Saturday after a long delay because of extreme heat.
There was an inquiry, just as there was when Maximum Security was disqualified after finishing first at the the Kentucky Derby, but this time the result stood.
Maximum Security, a 4-5 favorite ridden by Luis Saez, secured a spot in the Breeders Cup Classic with the victory.
Mucho Gusto (3-1), trained by Bob Baffert, finished second, with 34-1 long shot Spun to Run coming in third.
For a minute, it seemed a clear-cut win for Maximum Security. However, the stewards posted the inquiry sign. Videotape replays showed King for a Day had to check when Maximum Security and Mucho Gusto stormed past.
However, it was quickly dismissed, unlike the Derby when there was a 22-minute delay before Country House was elevated to the top spot.
Monmouth Park canceled six races earlier in the day and pushed back its stakes races until early evening because of the heat.
