Former Minister of Trade Mukhisa Kituyi and Kenya’s highest-ranking diplomat in the United Nations will be seeking to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta in 2022, his secretariat has said.
Speaking at a press briefing on Sunday, the secretariat said the former minister has what it takes to steer Kenya to greater economic heights.
They listed a long-list of his past achievements, saying he had demonstrated during the Kibaki-regime, a willingness to achieve results.
“We have looked at Kituyi’s credentials and achievements and decided that he is the best person to lift our economy and wage war on graft, he has been the Secretary-General of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development and therefore best placed to become Kenya’s next president,” the secretariat said.
At the same time, the team scoffed at the hussler vs dynasty politics that have pitted the Ruto-camp against the Raila-camp as the 2022 succession race hots up.
They argued that the politics were empty showmanship without any tangible agenda to uplift the lives of electorate.
Further, the secretariat seized the opportunity to tell off critics who had claimed the former minister does not have the financial muscle required to run a presidential campaign.
“Those who are saying Dr Mukhisa has no money, let them know even those with money will not feed you, or give their money to you,”
Mukhisa previously said he would only consider a shot at the top job upon the expiry of his term with the UN.
His term expires in 2021.
