Gor Mahia FC’s clash with their biggest rivals is now just four days away and captain Kenneth Muguna says the Kenyan Premier League (KPL) leaders are under no pressure.
Gor have utterly dominated Mashemeji derby rivals, winning eight of their previous 10 meetings with AFC Leopards’ last win coming four years ago at Kasarani.
The first leg served up an explosive counter with Gor handing Leopards another defeat in resounding fashion but Muguna says completing a double could prove a difficult task.
‘’We know how difficult it will be since we beat them in the first leg. We know they have studied our game but we are here to collect maximum points,’’ Muguna said.
Sunday’s derby will be the 88th time the two KPL giants are locking horns with Gor having won 29 of their previous derbies with AFC Leopards making an impact in 27 while spoils were shared in 31 meetings.
The skipper has called for tolerance from fans across the divide urging them to accept the day’s results and avoid any kind of unsporting behaviour.
“Last time there was much destruction from disgruntled fans who found it difficult to accept defeat and this kind of behaviour is not healthy. Let whoever wins be embraced.’’
In the history of Mashemeji derby only two players, both from Gor, have scored six or more goals which is the highest ever scored by an individual player in all meetings.
Ugandan striker Dan Sserunkuma scored six times, equalling the mark reached earlier by the late Sammy Onyango ‘’Jogoo’’.
A total of 120 GSU officers will be deployed at the match venue alongside a good number of regular police.
A win for Gor will take their points to 55 from 23 outings.
