A man died while four others were seriously injured in a grisly accident in Kendu Bay town, Homa Bay County.
The man died when a lorry rammed into vehicles and motorbikes parked in the town along Homa Bay–Katito road.
The accident occurred when the driver of the lorry that was carrying building materials from God Nyango in Rachuonyo South lost control.
The man who is yet to be identified sustained serious head injuries. He died while drinking soda at a shop in the town.
Witnesses said the lorry driver lost control before ramming into the two stationary vehicles and about five motorbikes.
The truck fell on one side while the vehicles and motorbikes were seriously wrecked.
“The driver intended to negotiate a corner on the right towards Katito. However, the driver lost control before it hit the vehicles and motorbikes,” a witness said.
North East Karachuonyo chief Tobias Aduda said the lorry driver might have lost control because he was speeding on the slope towards Kendu Bay town.
“Many pedestrians scampered for their safety when they saw the lorry driver had lost control,” Aduda said.
Meanwhile, four people who sustained injuries were rushed to Kendu Adventist Hospital. The driver of the lorry is among those who were injured in the incident.
The body was moved to the hospital mortuary.
