Konyu Ward, Nyeri County MCA Eric Mwangi Karugu alias Wamumbi was on Tuesday, May 26, questioned by the police over the mysterious death of his wife, Catherine Nyambura.
His wife’s body was found in Hohwe Dam, Mathira, on Monday morning, May 24, the Daily Nation reported.
Reports further revealed that he was questioned at Karatina Police Station, with the detectives looking to piece together the events that led up to her untimely death.
Wamumbi is a member of the Intergovernmental Budget and Economic Council that is chaired by Deputy President William Ruto, who has since shared his condolences over the death.
“May God give you strength as you mourn the mother of your two young boys. Rest In Peace, Catherine,” DP Ruto stated in a tweet.
“My condolences to the family of Wamumbi and the entire family may her soul rest in peace” one of his constituents posted on the legislator’s Facebook fan page.
The Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) are yet to reveal the condition in which they found the body of the deceased.
Wamumbi’s last public appearance, which was shared on Facebook, was on May 20, when he surprised one of his residents -Njoki wa Macharia, a 100 by 50 plot permanently allocated to them at Karindundu shopping centre, Nyeri County.
This was after her house was destroyed by the recent floods witnessed across the country.
The governor has since sent out his own personal message of encouragement to the MCA.
“I send my heartfelt condolences to Mheshimiwa MCA Konyu on the sad demise of Catherine Nyambura, his loving wife and doting mother of their two sons. The pain of losing a spouse is a huge burden to bear but with God’s ever-present help, Mheshimiwa will overcome this tragedy. May her soul rest in eternal peace. Job 14:1-2.” he shared.
