A police officer died on Friday evening while his wife was left nursing a serious gunshot wound following a domestic row at their home in Timau, Meru County.
The officer identified as police constable Michael Siwalo was found lying dead in the bedroom with a gunshot on the chest while the wife, Silvia Ramat Letei, was found bleeding with a bullet wound on the stomach.
According to police, it was reported that there was a commotion in the officer’s house before a gunshot was heard.
Police proceeded to the scene and found the officers wife aged about 25 years seated leaning against the wall at the main door.
“She was in a lot of pain and bleeding. She was unable to explain to the officers what had transpired after which the officers entered into the house and to the bedroom where the said officer was found lying dead with what appears to be a gun shot wound on the chest,” reads a police report on the incident.
According to police, the bedroom appeared “very disturbed like there was a struggle before the shooting.”
The woman was rushed to Nanyuki Teaching and Referral Hospital in serious condition.
“The said rifle was recovered in the bedroom with a magazine loaded with 27 rounds and one in the chamber. Also recovered from the scene are two cartridges,” added police.
Investigation are ongoing to ascertain what transpired during the incident.
