President Wiliam Ruto has nominated Renson Mulele Ingonga as the next Director of Public Prosecutions.

Mulele’s nomination was announced on Thursday by National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula in a communication to the House.

“Pursuant to the provisions of Standing Order number 42, I wish to convey a message from His Excellency the President regarding nomination of a person for appointment as the Director of Public Prosecutions. In the message, His Excellency the President nominates Renson Mulele Ingonga as the Director of Public Prosecutions.

“The President now seeks the approval of the appointee by this House,” reads the notification from the President.

Mr Mulele, who was picked by the President from a list of 15 candidates shortlisted by the Public Service Commission, will now undergo vetting by the Departmental Committee on Justice and Legal Affairs.

Upon undertaking the vetting exercise, the Committee will be required to submit a report to the House within 21 days.

Prior to his nomination Renson Mulele served as an Assistant Director of Public Prosecutions.

If approved by the National Assembly, Mulele will replace Noordin Haji who left the office following his appointment as Director-General of the National Intelligence Service (NIS).

Meanwhile, President Ruto has also nominated Andrew Mukite Musangi as Chairman of the Central Bank of Kenya. Mukite’s name has also been forwarded to Parliament for vetting.
