Schoolboy shot dead, scores injured during a cattle raid in Samburu

A school boy was shot dead and two others seriously injured at Marti area in Samburu North Sub County during a cattle raid incident.

While speaking on phone, the area chairman Mr.Henry Lonyelo said the deceased was herding goats when a group of armed people from another community stormed the area firing at the herders.

“They drove away unknown number of goats that this boy was herding after they shot killing him on the spot,” he said.

According to the community, a total of a hundred goats and seventy cattle were stolen during the incident but later on,  the seventy cattle were recovered abandoned in bushes.

“Three families have lost their livestock to cattle rustlers, as a community we are appealing to national government to take action against those who participated in the raid,” Mr Lonyelo said.

Kenya Red Cross Extension Officer in the region Mr Wiliam Nko has appealed to government to recover the stolen a hundred goats and return them to the owners as a step towards peace restoration in the area.

While speaking via a mobile phone, Samburu North Sub County Police Commander Mr Tom Makori confirmed the incident saying that the victims aged ten years and 14 years are admitted at Samburu County referral hospital in Maralal town where they are recuperating.

The deceased’s body was transferred to Maralal referral hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem.

Mr Makori said police have launched investigations into the incident ion order to recover the missing livestock and arrest suspects.
