President Uhuru Kenyatta’s recent political activities have shone the spotlight on him from Deputy President Wiliam Ruto”s alllies. The response was however expected after his visit to Sagana state lodge where he addressed his Mount Kenya support base on Wednesday, 23rd February 2022.
What was however surprising is the tone and messaging in the response which was direct and unbridled and focused mainly on the President in person and to a large extent his family. The furious reaction was mainly occasioned by Uhuru’s reference to the Kenya Kwanza team as “wakora” during the Jubilee NDC at the KICC .
The attacks on the President seemed to have been ignited by his reference to the Mt. Kenya clergy in bad light during his address in Sagana and his seemingly linking Kenya’s past failures to a suggestion that they were occasioned by people of a certain community which was further fired up by today’s ‘Wakora’ remark. The attacks we initiated by Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro after which Kisauni MP Mohamed ‘Jicho Pevu’ Ali spiced it up. When Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung’wa took to the stand it was a no-holds barred response to the Presidents remarks.
The timing of the Nyeri meeting was anticipated to have some response to the Presidents remarks during the Sagana meeting but the tone and message was clearly surprising. Speaker after Speaker castigated the President on his reference to the clergy as receiving stolen money from bible carrying ‘thieves’ with the Speakers asking the President to respect the church.
When it was Ichungwa’s turn to speak he started it off with a popular Kikuyu farewell song by the late John De’Mathew after which told the President to respect the church. He went on Mr. President we respect you but you are not God for us to worship you. He further asked the President as the symbol of national unity to stop profiling non-performing Minister’s by their ethnicity.
