Three police officers arrested for impersonating Flying Squad counterparts – Nairobi News

Directorate of Criminal Investigations’ (DCI) detectives on Monday arrested three police officers stationed in Kamukunji and Railways for impersonating Flying Squad officers.

The three suspects have been linked to robbing unsuspecting members of the public in the city.

The three have been identified as Constables Oliver Tambo Mayabi, Kelvin Andaje and Dancun Wasike.

They have also been linked to another suspect who was arrested on Saturday.

ROBBERY

Police said there have been numerous complaints from members of the public about harassment and robbery by individuals claiming to be Flying Squad officers.

On Saturday, one Joe Mwangi had on Saturday reported to the Central Police Station that several officers belonging to Nairobi West Prison were armed and harassing boda boda operators around Afya Centre.

Handcuffs and other items were recovered from the three who were arrested on Monday. However the DCI didn’t state where the arrest was made.

SHOT AND KILLED

Last week, police shot and a killed three suspected kidnappers who were reported to have hijacked a United Nations (UN) staff in Machakos.

Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said the suspects were in a five-man gang and were found masquerading as traffic police officers along the Machakos–Kitui Road.

Detectives managed to rescue the UN official who had already been handcuffed as two of the suspected criminals managed to escape.

A pistol, rounds of ammunition, traffic police uniform and a vehicle which the suspects were using were recovered from the scene.
