Tunaogopa Miguna kushinda corona- Willie Oeba in hard-hitting ‘Mr President’

Nakuru-based spoken word artist Willie Oeba has a released a hard-hitting track, Mr President decrying the state of the nation. In the release, the former BLAZE BYOB Nakuru winner questioned the government’s handling of the coronavirus pandemic after initially declining calls to halt flights into the country.

Alluding to the handling of Kenyan-born lawyer Miguna Miguna to stop him from entering the country, Oeba opined that the government might be more scared of him than the deadly pandemic which has thus far infected over a million people worldwide.

“Dear Mr President, hatungekubali hiyo ndege iingie, ama what’s your take,

Why take precautions after making a careless mistake?

Sasa tuna suspend learning while in real sense, tunge suspend flights….

Tunaogopa Miguna kushinda corona, tumeshindwa ata kuchoose our fears,” parts of the release goes.

Decrying the high unemployment rate among graduates, Oeba said that Kenyan youths are only considered during election time. He further accused the Uhuru-Ruto government of failing to deliver on their manifesto, saying the heavily-criticised Gengetone musicians are doing better since ‘siku hizi wao wana perform.’

“Dear Mr President, ma youth kila mahali inabidi wamejiandika kama Flossin Mauwano (graffiti artist),

Hi gava ni kama mtu ako accused falsely juu hijafanya kitu, na ni baada ya miaka tano…

Kwa hii nchi university education imekuwa bure at servants wako na masters.

Dear Mr President Mbona mnacreate policies for the same hospitals hamuwezi jitibu, the only local facility mko na imani nayo ni Lee (the funeral home).”

The artist, who released his debut album titled ISM in January 2020 wondered how leaders employed by Kenyans are advising their employers to employ themselves.  In the oration, Oeba also addressed Kenya’s public debt to China, nepotism and the poor payment for artists in Kenya.

Oeba started making a name for himself during his campus years at Moi University, where he’d hold Sh50 shows alongside other creatives. He cemented his place among spoke word’s brightest after beating other contestants to a Sh100, 000 cheque during the BLAZE BYOB Nakuru Summit, two years ago.

The artist, who has a long working relationship with King Kaka, is known for his socially conscious compositions with his last release, Wajinga Nyinyi 4 banking on the Kaka Empire boss’ release that ruffled more than a few feathers.
