Whitney Houston back on tour eight years after her tragic death as hologram

Whitney Houston is back on tour eight years after her tragic death… but as a hologram.

The Girls Just Wanna Have Fun singer died in 2012 aged 48 – but that doesn’t mean fans can’t see her perform.

A hologram of the legendary pop star has kicked off on tour, and the first show started in Sheffield last night.

An Evening with Whitney includes a digital recreation of the singer – which was created by a body double, a CGI synthesizer and hundreds of hours of performance footage.

Whitney’s hologram will be projected on to the stage, alongside two professional dancers and a live band.

The tour will feature the late star’s best songs, including I Will Always Love You.

Whitney’s sister, Pat Houston, said it was “the right time” for the tour, and that it’s “in the spirit of Whitney”.

While most of Houston’s fans are overwhelmed at the fact they can watch their favourite singer perform again, others have slammed the idea.

Last week the studio was transformed to welcome the cast of the Whitney Houston tour for a special live performance of The Greatest Love of All.

One viewer asked: “What did it just watch???? Looks nothing like Whitney? Good idea, but no”

“Whitney the hologram is so wrong and odd. It looks like a gone wrong sim, respect the departed,” added another.

A third said: “Doesn’t get much weirder than reincarnating dead folk in a hologram for daytime viewing”

In 2008 a hologram of Elvis Presley was used in an episode of American Idol.
