Raise your hand if you’r over winter already… I know I am! As much as I love layering, I find myself daydreaming about the warmer seasons to come – times when I don’t necessarily need to wear a long sleeve shirt, sweater, and coat all at once! I may be jumping ahead of myself but I am already getting pumped about summer clothing that is much funner and lighter to wear. Resort wear season typically lasts from the end of May to July, so only 4 months and counting. If you are eagerly awaiting, here are some of the upcoming resort wear trends and pieces to satisfy your cravings for the time being!
Safari
2019 was undoubtedly the year of the cheetah print. And animals are not going away but rather evolving into other territory, e.g. zebra, tiger, and more. This look pays homage to that street, safari aesthetic – certainly a trend you will want to hop on!
Bows
If anything, resort wear is going to be much more ostentatious than usual. I am predicting an abundance of louder piece like large bows adorning dresses and blouses. This feminine, girly embellishment adds a really lovely touch that elevates your basic silhouettes.
Naked Backs
Naturally, warmer weather means more exposed skin and the latest and greatest cut out is the bare back. Open-back crop tops, mini dresses and halters provide that subtle, sensual aesthetic that is irresistible during this time of year.
Long white dress
Think Woodstock crossed with Midsummar vibes for this next resort wear trend.
Long white maxi dresses in linen, poplin, and eyelet lace are the new it piece. This look is fresh and darling, making it ideal to pack for your summer getaway.
Leather
Leather was a big push in fall and winter and it continues to live on even in the warmer months. Granted, it will be done in more fitting ways so I promise you won’t end up a sweaty mess! Leather shorts and shirt dresses will be perfect minimal, chic accents to your summer wardrobe.
…
Tailored Silhouettes
Soft tailored pieces continue to be a push from all the biggest labels and designers. These looks will be seen in the form of paper bag waist pants, bold shoulder blazers and high-waisted shorts. Of course they will be translated into lighter, comfortable fabrications to combat the higher temperatures. Take it up notch by skipping your typical beige and browns for something bold and bright.
Polka Dots
Continuing with the aforementioned mod-vintage vibe, polka dots are also making a comeback this summer. Black and white colorways are feminine and sweet, but expect to see this pattern in brighter color combos too. Take it in the form of trousers, midi dresses, and cute crop tops, then mix and match it with solid pieces in your wardrobe. I could go on and on about how to style polka dots!
Pleats
Resort wear will also see the return of the pleat in dresses and midi skirts. I am super excited for this trend because I think pleats are such a classy, timeless way to add texture into your look! Plus, it definitely gives off that haute, Hamptons aesthetic which is perfect for vacay mode.
Style tip: Don’t be afraid to go all out with tiered pleats – I’m personally ogling over the look. You can wear it to a spring/summer wedding, GNO, or a date night.
Fuchsia
Lastly, in terms of color, fuchsia will definitely be a hot topic throughout resort wear – which makes sense! It is such a beautiful, bold hue that pairs well with the warmer weather and tan skin. Have fun with the trend by pairing a flirty mini dress with fun strappy heels, then add a handbag in a contrasting color.
What resort wear trends are you looking forward to most?
