Anne Mwenda sworn in as deputy governor shortly after approval by city MCAs – Nairobi News

The swearing in comes less than two hours after she was approved by the Nairobi County Assembly as the deputy governor-designate.

This followed a unanimous adoption of the assembly’s select committee on Appointments’ report of the vetting of the former Nairobi County Disaster Management and Coordination Chief Officer.

Delivering her inaugural speech, Ms Mwenda pledged to prioritise service delivery to Nairobi residents in order to uplift their social and economic development.

“I affirm my commitment to serve the people of Nairobi with utmost dedication, focus, discipline and integrity,” said Ms Mwenda.

She promised to work closely with Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS) director general Major General Mohammed Badi to strengthen the delivery of the transferred functions.

The 40-year-old further pledged to work smoothly with the leadership of the county assembly for the betterment of lives of the city residents.

“Together, we will work round the clock and go the extra mile to ensure that the aspirations of Nairobi people are not only met but exceeded in a bid to accelerate their socio-economic development. The public can now look forward to enhanced service delivery,” she said.

Ms Mwenda thanked President Uhuru Kenyatta for having faith in her by the virtue of the party he leads, Jubilee Party, nominating her for the deputy governor position.

“I would first and foremost thank the President and the party leader of Jubilee Party, for showing his faith in me to serve in this position,” she said.
