Ariana Grande ‘sparks Sh570 million bidding war’ for rights to Sweetener tour film

Popstar Ariana Grande is reportedly the focus of a Sh570 million (£4 million) bidding war that includes streaming giant Netflix. The 7 Rings singer, 27, hinted last week that a film was in the works about her Sweetener tour, which saw a 97-date run of gigs and had her perform in front of 1.3 million people.

Now a number of film studios and distributors are said to be keen to get the rights to the film, with Netflix at the front of the queue. An insider told The Sun: “Ariana’s team are negotiating a huge deal between a number of big hitters, with Netflix and YouTube both showing interest. Netflix has put forward a starting offer of £4million to get the rights.”

The paper reports that Ariana is looking at the deal with her closest advisors, including with record executive Scooter Braun – known for his feud with singer-songwriter Taylor Swift over the rights to her back catalogue.

Ariana is said to have filmed her performances on the Sweetener tour, along with backstage moments that show the ins-and-outs of the production and also some more personal moments.

” The film is said to begin following the release of her 2019 album, Thank U, Next, which came following a devastating 18 months that included Manchester bombings at her concert in May 2017 and the untimely death of her ex-boyfriend Mac Miller in September 2018.

Ariana will follow in the footsteps of fellow pop stars Taylor Swift and Katy Perry who have also filmed the ins-and-outs of their elaborate tours. Grande began dating real estate worker Dalton Gomez earlier this year, having previously broken off her engagement to comedian Pete Davidson back in October 2018 following two years together.
