Civil suit against UFC star McGregor dropped

The man who sued UFC star Conor McGregor for allegedly smashing his cell phone on March 11 in Miami has dropped a civil lawsuit against him, according to online records.

The lawsuit was dismissed with prejudice in Miami-Dade County court on Monday at the request of Ahmed Abdirzak, who had sought at least $15,000 in damages.

McGregor, 30, is still facing criminal charges for the alleged incident. He has filed a written plea of not guilty on one felony charge of robbery sudden snatching and misdemeanor criminal mischief. His next court date is scheduled for April 10.

McGregor (21-4) announced his retirement from mixed martial arts late last month, but has since dropped hints he intends to fight again. According to a report from The New York Times, McGregor is currently under investigation for an alleged sexual assault in his native Ireland. He has not been charged with any crime in connection to that matter at this time.

The former UFC featherweight and lightweight champion hasn’t fought since a submission loss to Khabib Nurmagomedov last October. That loss is McGregor’s only UFC appearance in the last two years.
