Donté Colley hosts Hudson’s Bay TikTok challenge
In honour of Hudson’s Bay’s 350th anniversary next month, the brand is using social media platform TikTok to spark some joy and positivity during these uncertain times. Hosted by FASHION’s March cover star Donté Colley, Hudson’s Bay is creating a TikTok challenge called #ShowUsYourStripes. To participate in the challenge, simply download the TikTok App, search and follow @hudsonsbay and click on their video with Colley. From here you can tap “Share” or “Duet,” or simply click on the audio tag at the bottom and use the sound to make your very own version — wearing your favourite HBC stripes, of course. Tag it with the hashtag and re-post it to Instagram or Facebook to spread some much-needed joy.
Kotn embarks on three initiatives in support of COVID-19 relief
Sustainable loungewear brand Kotn recognizes that not everyone is in a position to shop right now. So instead of having a sale, Kotn is instead inviting its community to gift up to three people a free Kotn product. The campaign kicks off on April 28 and will run through May 12. Kotn has also partnered with Holt Renfrew to create masks for Canadian essential workers in need. Using deadstock from past Kotn collections, the Holt Renfrew alterations team will work from home over the next several weeks to create over 10,000 reusable masks. So far, 2,500 have been donated to Sunnybrook Hospital’s Infection Prevention & Control and Occupational Health team for non-surgical uses. Additionally, the brand has donated 2,000 pieces of clothing to Brands for Canada, to be distributed directly to Canadians living below the poverty line, and families most affected by COVID-19.
Peace Collective and Travelzoo launch #HomeTodayTravelTomorrow capsule collection
While we won’t be travelling anywhere for a while, Toronto’s Peace Collective has teamed up with Travelzoo to keep the travel bug at bay. Launching today, this partnership will see the launch of a capsule collection of face masks and T-shirts, all marked with messages encouraging passionate jetsetters to stay home during the global pandemic. Some messages on the aforementioned wares include “Stay Home Toronto” and “Stay Home Canada,” among others. Most importantly, purchasing an item from the collection gives back to the community in multiple ways: For every pack of masks purchased, a mask will be donated to a frontline worker in need, and for every T-shirt purchased, three meals will be provided to a person in need through a local food bank. Plus, every purchase from the #HomeTodayTravelTomorrow collection will include a $10 Travelzoo promo code (to stow away for a time when it is safe to travel), and an entry to possibly win a Golden Ticket Getaway—a once in a lifetime, all-expenses-paid trip for two to either Morocco, Portugal, India or Peru.
Altuzarra collaborates with Etsy artisans on limited-edition home decor
Luxury fashion label Altuzarra has teamed up with online indie artisan marketplace Etsy. Together, they will create a highly curated, limited-edition homedecor collection filled with one-of-a-kind pillows, pottery pieces, dog beds and more. With the skills of eight Etsy makers from around the world, creative director Joseph Altuzarra’s passion for handmade quality goods with a personal touch will be brought to life. This project is especially timely as it poses an opportunity to bring joy to our current four-wall-bound reality. “The idea of being surrounded by objects and furnishings that bring you peace, joy and happiness, is so important. I wanted to create a collection that would bring people a sense of comfort and joy,” says Altuzarra.
Archival Toronto is hosting weekly pop-up fundraisers for COVID-19 relief
Archival Toronto is known for creating fashion events in the city. Now, during a time when social distancing rules are being strictly implemented, Archival Toronto has shifted to become an online platform for charity fundraising. Starting April 27, their first-ever pop-up fundraiser will go live on Instagram and will run for a month. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, their grid will see a new item for sale, listed with a base price and chosen charity that the proceeds will go to. Be sure to follow Archival Toronto closely on Instagram, as the items being sold will go to the first person to DM their invoice email.
