46′ We’re back underway in this LaLiga contest.

Jose Bordalas cannot be too downhearted with his side’s performance. They’ve dominated large portions of the game, but they’ve just lacked the clinical. If they are able to get an early goal in the second half they are more than capable of emerging with the win.

Real Madrid take a 1-0 lead into the break over Getafe courtesy of an own goal from David Soria. The visitors were not at their best in the first half, but are still ahead as Soria came for a cross from Ferland Mendy and saw Raphael Varane’s header glance off his gloves and spin into the back of the net. Other than that Los Blancos have been quiet and the home team have been extremely active in the final third. Thibaut Courtois has been called on to deny Faycal Fajr twice with two good stops, while Mauro Arambarri and Leandro Cabrera also had efforts save. Getafe were the better side in the first period, but have nothing to show for their play.

38′ WIDE! Fajr collects on the right flank and goes for a powerful strike towards the top-left corner. Courtois flings himself to his right and watches as the ball just travels past the post. So close for the Getafe midfielder.

36′ The goal is a huge setback for Getafe as they had been the better side in the contest. Bordalas has to ensure that he keeps his side focused.

Getafe

34′ GOALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!! MADRID ARE IN FRONT!!!! 1-0!! Soria has a nightmare for the home side as he comes for a cross and fails to get there, allowing Varane to glance his header into an empty net, although it may come off the keeper last. Getafe clear the first delivery from the right flank, but Mendy puts a dangerous delivery back into the middle. Soria believes that he can get there ahead of the Madrid defender. However, he misses his punch and Varane guides his effort into the net with the help of the Soria.

Getafe

21′ It has been a fairly even battle and neither team has had a sight of goal yet.

19′ Fajr sends a poor free-kick into the box that the visitors are able to clear with ease. Suarez has to act quickly to get across to stop Mendy on the counter, sliding to clear into touch on Getafe’s right flank.

18′ Modric trips Cucurella from behind and Getafe have another free-kick on the left flank. It has been a stop-start game.

1′ Benzema gets in behind the Getafe backline in the right inside channel to flick a header from Bale’s lofted pass, but it goes straight through to Soria.

1′ We’re underway in this LaLiga contest.

Getafe are winless in their last 11 LaLiga games against Real Madrid (D1 L10). Their last win against the White side in the competition was in August 2012 (2-1 at Coliseum Alfonso Pérez).

Varane replaces Ramos in the middle of the defence alongside Militao. Casemiro is recalled in the middle of the park, while Bale and Isco get the nod ahead of Rodrygo and Vinicius to play in the final third.

Jose Bordalas has made two changes to his side that was beaten by Villarreal last time out. Molina drops to the bench from the defeat and is replaced in the final by Rodriguez, who leads the line alongside Mata. Portillo also makes way for Fajr on the right flank.

Madrid’s momentum was stymied before the break in their bid to wrestle top spot away from Barcelona. They were held to three draws on the bounce, including in El Clasico where they could have snatched the three points at Camp Nou. They were underwhelming against Athletic Bilbao last time out, failing to find the back of the net. Zinedine Zidane’s men begin the year two points off the pace of Barca and need a strong performance to kickstart the second half of the season.

LaLiga returns from the winter break after an absence of two weeks over the Christmas and New Year period. Getafe were one of the form sides in the division boasting an unbeaten run of eight matches in all competitions before suffering a defeat at the hands of Villarreal on the road on December 21. They’ve had two weeks to plan for the challenge of Madrid this afternoon and will have to rediscover their peak form to take down Los Blancos.

Good afternoon and welcome to the live commentary of the LaLiga clash between Getafe and Real Madrid at the Coliseum Alfonso Perez.
