Gor set to depart for CAF CL duty in Algeria

Kenyan champions Gor Mahia FC will depart the country at midnight for Algeria for their first leg of their  CAF Champions League first round clash against  Algeria’s CR Belouzidad on Saturday.

Confirming the news to Citizen Digital, stand-in coach Sammy Omollo said the players had trained in the last two days peacefully despite them having gone on a three-day go slow over unpaid allowances.

The match was initially set for last evening, Gor sought more time from CAF having struggled to fly to the North African country whose airspace is locked for all non-cargo carriers as a measure to curb the spread of COVID-19.

“We are set to leave the country at midnight for Algeria ,we are prepared to our best despite the challenges we have been facing in the recent days we trained on Tuesday and yesterday and I believe we will fight to make the country proud ,”Said Omollo

No Kenyan club has reached the group stage and the odds are against Gor ending a run of three straight last 32 exits.

The record Kenyan champions have always battled when paired with North African rivals and it is unlikely to be any different when they confront their opponents, who enjoy home advantage first.

Pamzo says they are determined to break that jinx on Saturday.

“We have watched a number of the videos and I believe we will execute our plans well, ” the former Kenyan international added.

While the Algerians won at home and away against Al Nasr of Libya in the preliminary round, Kogalo needed final-minute goals from Sydney Ochieng and Nicholas Kipkirui to edge APR of Rwanda.

The match will be played Saturday at  10.45 pm Kenyan time.
