Heartbreak for Liam Neeson as his mother dies one day before his birthday

Liam Neeson’s mother Katherine ‘Kitty’ Neeson has sadly passed away on Saturday – one day before the actor himself turned 67.

News of Kitty’s death was announced during a mass at All Saints Church in Ballymena, Northern Ireland, which was broadcast over Facebook on Saturday – revealing the former cook had died in her 90s.

The religious service was broadcast online to allow worshippers to take part in accordance with social distancing and coronavirus lockdown measures.

Parish Priest, Monsignor Paddy Delargy, led the service where he announced the death of Liam’s beloved mother during an invitation to prayer.

The Ballymena Daily reports the Parish Priest stating: “We pray for those that died recently….and Kitty Neeson.”

He added: “Her funeral arrangements will be later.”

The Mayor of Mid and East Antrim Borough Council, Cllr Peter Johnston, added: “Very sorry to hear this news.

“As Mayor of Mid and East Antrim, I will be raising this at full council on Tuesday where we will be holding a minute’s silence.”

He also added: “Rest in Peace, Kitty.”

Hollywood star Liam is a Freeman of the borough where Kitty lived.

Kitty married school caretaker Bernard ’Barney’ Neeson and they had four children; son Liam and daughters Elizabeth, Bernadette and Rosaleen.

Kitty’s passing comes 11 years after the tragic death of Liam’s wife, the actress Natasha Richardson.

The star sadly died aged 45 following a skiing accident.

Liam and Natasha have two children; sons Micheál, 24, and Daniel, 23.
