The body of a 24-year-old woman by the name Mary Wangui is lying at Nyeri County Referral Hospital mortuary, a stab wound to her neck bearing evidence to a brutal end in the hands of a disgruntled lover she had refused to be with.
Police are still pursuing David Karuru the man accused of the brutal killing.
Mary Wangui Wachira died in her aunt’s home after her estranged lover stabbed her in the neck after she refused to take him back following a sour separation.
The deceased had been living with her aunt following the nasty breakup from the father of her children a few weeks ago.
On Monday, Mr Karuru is said to have broken into the one-roomed house at Nyaribo where he stabbed Wangui leaving her for dead.
THREATS
It remains unclear what prompted the 1am attack, but neighbours said the couple had been having domestic issues that prompted Wangui to move away with her two children.
Mr Karuru is, however, said to have come back and taken away the two children in what appears to have been a preexisting custodial battle.
“They seemed to have been having domestic issues and he even came to talk to her at around 10pm on Sunday hoping to get her to return home but she refused,” Mr Mugumo Nderitu, a neighbor said.
The suspect was, however, not taking no for an answer and when she refused to take him back, he reportedly threatened to kill her.
“He told her that if she did not go back to his house she would not live. She obviously took it as an empty threat,” Mr Nderitu said.
AMBUSH
True to his word, the assailant left the home only to creep back in later that night and lay an ambush behind one of the houses.
He is said to have waited for the deceased’s aunt to get out of the house to answer to a call of nature when entered and stabbed the victim in the neck.
He reportedly escaped with the help of a boda boda rider who had been waiting outside the compound.
The father of two accused of the gruesome killing is still at large as detectives continue pursuing him to face murder charges.
On Tuesday, Nyeri Central Sub County Police Commander (SCPC) Paul Kuria said detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations were working to trace him.
“The DCI is on the case and we are trying to track his movements after he committed the crime. There are several strategies being applied and we are confident we will get him very soon,” Mr Kuria said.
This comes as fresh information emerged that the perpetrator had reportedly called neighbours to enquire if the deceased had received treatment.
STABBED
Barely 30km away in Karatina Town, a 30-year-old businesswoman is recovering from 17 stab wounds allegedly sustained at the hands of her husband.
Ms Peninah Wangechi claims her husband of seven years has been threatening to kill her in recent weeks over marital disagreements.
“I have been married to him for seven years and he has been threatening to kill me but I never thought he would go through with it,” she said.
The suspect, Mr Samuel Ndirangu, is said to have stabbed his wife 17 times surrendering himself to police and is currently facing charges of attempted murder.
He was presented before Senior Resident magistrate Karen Njalale at the Karatina Law Courts but he denied the charges. He was granted Sh1 million bond with a surety of a similar amount.
