Kaizer Chiefs 1-2 Maritzburg United: Claasen’s double sinks Amakhosi
Tinkler’s continued his impressive record against Amakhosi as his charges blew the title race wide open with an important win in Soweto
Kaizer Chiefs suffered their third defeat of the season at the hands of Maritzburg United in a league match which was played at FNB Stadium on Saturday night.
Daylon Claasen netted a second-half brace for the Team of Choice while Samir Nurkovic grabbed a consolation goal for Amakhosi.
Both teams made changes to the teams that played their previous matches with Eric Tinkler bringing back Judas Moseamedi while Daniel Akpeyi took over from Itumeleng Khune in the Chiefs goals.
As expected Chiefs were quick to out of the blocks as they dominated ball possession and created goalscoring chances.
However, they were often guilty of squandering those chances with Nurkovic, Leonardo Castro and Khama Billiat all the culprits.
Goalkeeper Richard Ofori had to come to his team’s rescue in the 24th minute as he made a point-blank save to deny Nurkovic who had connected with George Maluleka’s cross into the box.
