Award-winning journalist Lynn Ngugi has been listed among 100 most inspiring and influential women from around the world for 2021 by the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC).
The online talk show host could barely hide her amazement as she took to social media to announce the news.
“I am not even going to lie right now, I never thought I would be in this category. How? I mean, who would have thought I would one day be acknowledged among other 99 influential women globally? To God be the glory.” She stated.
Lynn proceeded to pen down a message of gratitude, lauding BBC for her mention on the list.
Lynn is placed next to Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, an acclaimed Nigerian author and feminist icon, a feat she termed as “a dream come true.”
“I hope we can all be inspired, reset our mind and help reinvent the society together. Also, seeing myself next to Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie was in itself a dream come true. Thank you so much God and the entire team at BBC for this. Together, we will change the world,” she wrote.
The content creator was over the moon as she recounted a day she was asked why she loves doing her job.
“Not sure I will ever get over this day. Few days ago, someone asked me why I love doing what I do, and I proudly replied, ‘because my work offers me the ability to tell our own stories in an authentic manner and with no shame. Today was amazing (still),” she added.
Lynn Ngugi is known for her previous work on the Tuko digital news platform, where she covered a wide array of inspiring human-interest stories.
She now runs a YouTube channel by her own name where she continues to conduct human interest interviews.
She won the Cafe Ngoma Humanitarian Journalist of the Year award in 2020 and this year’s iChange Nations Community Ambassador award.
According to BBC, this year’s 100 Women is highlighting those who are hitting “reset” – women playing their part to reinvent our society, our culture and our world.
Among the globally acclaimed women are Malala Yousafzai, the youngest ever Nobel Peace Prize laureate, Samoa’s first female Prime Minister Fiamē Naomi Mata’afa, Professor Heidi J Larson, who heads The Vaccine Confidence Project, and acclaimed author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie.
