Magufuli to be laid to rest Thursday

The late Tanzanian President, John Pombe Magufuli, will be buried on March 25.

According to the newly sworn-in President Samia Suluhu Hassan, Magufuli will be buried at his Chato home in Geita,  north-western part of Tanzania.

Addressing the nation shortly after her swearing-in ceremony on Friday, Suluhu said the country will be in a 21-day mourning period where all flags will fly at half-mast.

According to the burial plans,  on March 20, the body will be moved from the mortuary to St. Peters Church in Dar-es-Salaam for a brief service before being moved to Uhuru grounds for public viewing. The body will remain there until March 21 before being bid farewell.

On March 22, the body will be moved to Dodoma for public viewing before being moved to Mwanza on March 23. The body will be moved to his rural home in Chato on the same day, where his constituents will have a chance to view the body.

On March 24, family members and all international and invited guests will have a chance to view before the burial day on March 25. Magufuli died on March 17 after a 10-year battle with heart complications.
