Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiangí (pictured) is appearing before that National Assembly over changes in the Deputy President William Ruto’s security detail.
He told the National Security and Administration Committee that the DP has the highest number of officers dedicated to him. He has 257.
The CS appeared alongside PS Karanja Kibicho.
Matiang’i explained how holders of the office have not had the same number of security officers. They are Oginga Odinga (30), Joseph Murumbi (22) and Daniel Moi’s 34.
Others are Mwai Kibaki 26, Joseph Karanja 22, George Saitoti 30, Musalia Mudavadi 22, Kijana Wamalwa 22, Moody Awori 22, Raila Odinga (as Prime Minister) 57, and Kalonzo Musyoka 26.
The National Security and Administration Committee chairperson Peter Mwathi (Limuru) yesterday said should they establish a breach of the law, they will recommend to have the elite team reinstated.
He said the committee picked up the matter following public uproar and complaints by the office of the DP.
“We want him to tell us what is happening because there was outcry after the officers were replaced. We also want him to brief the committee on the general status of security,” said Mwathi.
