Is it just me or did it go from denim cut-off shorts to puffer jackets real quick these past couple of weeks? At least in New York, I felt like I woke up one morning and it was so cold. It is not even that long ago since we started talking about transitional fashion on the blog and it seems I blinked and we are already there! Do not mistake this as a complaint either. I absolutely live for fall and am stoked to finally pull out some of the items I have been gathering for the cooler months. Since early mornings and late evenings are quite brisk but afternoons are still sunny, I have been wearing a mix of end-of-summer items with some new fall pieces. Here are my favorite summer to fall transitional outfits you can quickly recreate.
Fall Tones
What better way to channel the new season than with an autumnal color palette? One of my favorite looks is tucking a turtleneck sweater into fun midi skirt. To keep the look very “Fall 2020”, add a cardigan on top with a faux shearling handbag. Don’t shy away from bringing the fall tones into your everyday summer-to-fall transitional outfits.
Camel Monochrome
When in doubt, go for a monochromatic look because it never fails to look chic. Not all the shades need to be exactly the same but if they do – more power to you! If you are looking to achieve a fluid, monochrome outfit, try shopping from the same brand because chances are, they are going to have pieces in the same pantone. I rounded up some of my favorite neutral outfits that create a really seamless look. I even threw on some camel colored boots to complete the outfit.
Tailored Cropped Set
Before it gets too cold for bare legs, take your favorite matching set out for a spin! I’m loving suit sets, which you can prevent from looking too stiff by adding tube socks and platform sneakers. To complete this transitional outfit, I accessorized with a beige handbag! The chunky chain handle is a key detail to look out for this fall. There are so many variations of this look that you can play with!
Baggy Jeans
The motto this fall is the looser the jean, the chicer the fit. These denim pants feature a high-waist but a really wide leg. This relaxed, straight leg style is going to be the must-have denim look for the rest of the year. I love how casual, yet cool the result is. To dress it up a bit, add a fancier top. This one-shoulder silk top tucks nicely into the jeans and I loved the way they pair together!
Vintage Vibes
The vintage vibes are strong in this one – everything from the coronary material to the platform Mary Jane shoes says so. This beautiful look is from Fendi and another great fall transitional outfit to get inspired by. As we gear more towards heavier fabrics, corduroy is going to take centerstage. It is soft, yet warm and adds some great texture to a look. You can play up this fall look with some statement accessories. A yellow bag or orange shoes keep the look contemporary, while staying paying homage to the vintage vibes.
What summer-to-fall transitional outfits have you guys been wearing?
