Nairobi man, 23, arrested over disappearance of teenage Nyakach girl

Detectives have arrested a 23-year-old man in connection with the recent disappearance of a teenage girl from Nyakach, Kisumu County.

Marcos Menza Masumbuko was arrested by the officers based in Nairobi and was taken to Mathare Police Station.

Earlier on Monday, the detectives revealed that 13- year-old XXX was found at her aunt’s rural home in Nyakach, after she went missing on October 11, 2020.

When announcing the development, the police investigations were ongoing with the probe to establish the circumstances of her disappearance in order to bring suspects to book.

“DCI CRIB detectives working in collaboration with Nairobi Region detectives are working to establish the circumstances surrounding her disappearance and how the same minor travelled to her aunt’s home in Nyakach on October 17, 2020,” the DCI said.

According to the detectives, investigations revealed that the suspect befriended the teenager, and lured her all the way from the custody of her aunt to Nairobi. He then released her after he saw the pictures of the girl being circulated that she had gone missing.

“Intelligence drawn from forensic analysis led detectives to a social media platform where the suspect befriended and lured the minor to his house, where the two are suspected to have cohabited for the period before Masumbuko facilitated the Minor’s escape to her aunt’s place in Nyakach, Kisumu County,” DCI said in a Facebook post.

The police further revealed that the suspect went ahead and shaved his dreadlocks to disguise his appearance after the issue blew up.

The sleuths warned parents and guardians against letting their children access social media unguarded.

“The DCI cautions parents to be vigilant in monitoring what sites their children visit on the internet, especially during this Coronavirus period where kids are being issued with electronic gadgets to attend online classes,” the DCI warned.
