‘No CDF, no sittings’: MPs sabotage proceedings for a second time

Members of Parliament on Thursday sabotaged proceedings for the the second time in a row over National Government Constituency Development fund (NGCDF).

The legislators instead opted to stay at the members lounge chanting: “No CDF, no sittings, no CDF no supplementary budget” despite the bell ringing for over 20mins.

Efforts by the party whips fell on deaf ears as members demanded money to be appropriated to their constituencies.

The MPs are supposed to proceed for a one week recess and they demanded to have the money before taking their break.

The afternoon session also ended prematurely as MPs boycotted the debate on the Division of Revenue Bill that was on the floor of the House.

Tigania West MP Kanyuithia Murunga notified the Speaker that there was no quorum in the house.

This forced the Speaker to adjourn the sittings after efforts to bring back the MPs failed.

So far, each constituency has received only Ksh. 16million out of the Ksh. 100million that they are supposed to receive every financial year.

This despite the fact that only three months are left before the financial year ends.
