Obado’s days numbered? ODM set to kick off impeachment motion

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) will initiate an impeachment motion against Migori Governor Okoth Obado.

A statement from the party cited the recent corruption charges leveled against Obado and the decision by the court to bar him from accessing his office.

“The party in consultations with County MCAs has resolved to have a motion of impeachment against the Governor initiated immediately and have the Deuty Governor take over,” ODM said.

Migori MCAs were to have a meeting with the ODM national leadership on Tuesday at the party headquarters but the venue was later changed.

The reason for the change was not immediately clear.

Reports indicate that 37 out of 41 MCAs voted to impeach governor Obado over the graft allegations.

The Obado family had spent the weekend in police custody after they were arrested in Migori.

They were arraigned before Senior Principal Magistrate Lawrence Mugambi on Monday.

The accused denied the charges and were freed on Ksh.18.25million cash bail which they have since paid to the court.

Obado has been barred from accessing the Migori County office.

He has also been ordered to surrender his passports to the court, not travel outside the country and not interfere with witnesses.
