The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has reclaimed the Ganda Ward seat in Malindi, Kilifi County.
Mr Ruben Katana has been declared winner after garnering 4,177 votes to beat Independent candidate Abdul Omar, who had 2,331 votes.
Jubilee party’s Joseph Kiponda was third with 589 votes, followed by Kadu Asili’s David Mitsanze with 362 votes.
The seat had been hotly contested as Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa tried to wrest it from the Raila Odinga-led party in a political supremacy battle in the coastal region.
The seat fell vacant after the High Court nullified the election of Mr Abdulrahman Mohamed Omar owing to irregularities and illegalities that marred the August 7, 2017 election.
Earlier, Returning Officer Jumaa Musa directed police officers to eject Kilifi Deputy Governor Gideon Saburi and journalists from TV47 for lacking accreditation.
The tallying, which was conducted at Takaye Primary School, began at around 8pm Thursday.
The ward has 12 polling centres, 30 polling stations and 16,632 voters.
