Political activist Morara Kebaso arrested

Political activist Morara Kebaso has been arrested at his Kahawa Sukari offices under unclear circumstances.

His lawyer, Pareno Solonka, stated that Kebaso has been held incommunicado since his arrest, with officers claiming to be following “orders from above.”

Initially, Kebaso was taken to the Regional Police Headquarters in Nairobi, with reports circulating that he was being transferred to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters in Kiambu.

However, his lawyer denied these allegations, claiming that the vocal activist is still at the Regional Police Headquarters.

“Morara is still at the Regional Police Headquarters in Nairobi. Ignore all rumors that he has been transferred!” Solonka stated in a video shared on the social platform X.

Solonka also stated that officers at the gate had received explicit instructions from higher authorities not to allow any lawyers or media personnel to see the activist.

The reasons for Kebaso’s arrest are unclear, but he had reported being followed by government agents in late August.

He has been actively touring the country to expose stalled government projects and highlight what he sees as widespread corruption.

Kebaso has become a vocal critic of President William Ruto, claiming that many of his initiatives are either stalled or yet to be launched.

He emphasised the importance of his work in holding the government accountable, stating that he is not concerned about his own safety because it would undermine his efforts.

The father of two stated that he has received threats and been followed by vehicles with unidentified licence plates.

“If I worry too much, I will not be able to continue my work,” he remarked.

“What I am doing is extremely risky. I have experienced incidents where my phone was tracked and vehicles with untraceable number plates were seen near my home.”
